Surujdeo Mangaroo

A fourth generation Indian born in Trinidad & Tobago West Indies.

He is a well known social and cultural activist serving his country for more than five decades.
He served as the General Secretary of the Trinidad Island-Wide Rice Growers Association for a period of 15 years.

In the year 2002 he chart the way forward for the establishment of the Rotary Club of Penal earning the title as Charter President.

He received has been awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award on 5 occasions.

In has been an active member of the Hindi Foundation of T & T Inc since 1989, currently he is the Chairman-Cultural Affairs. In the year 1997 he became an Executive Member of the National Council of Indian Cultural producing the Cultural program for the flagship event of the organisation Divali Nagar for over 25 years. Currently he occupy the office of 1st Vice President of the Organisation after serving as Public Relations Officer for almost two decades.

He served as a Director of the government’s Central Pensions Board for a period of four years.

In the year 2010 during he served as the Chairman-National Commission for Self Help for five years under the Kamla Persad Bissessar’s administration.

He, over the years he was able to assist artistes throughout the Caribbean in training on an Exchange Basis.

He is widely travelled visiting over 100 countries where the Indian Diaspora settled. He is a proud recipient of the Hindi Ratan Award from the NRI Welfare Society in 2004, the Glory of India Award in London and during the country’s 50th of our Independence celebrations in 2012 he received the Hummingbird Medal Gold from the government of Trinidad and Tobago.

Coming on board as the VP of the Caribbean Region has given him an opportunity to further strengthen the ties of the Indo Caribbean people at an international level, a task he is hoping to achieve in the not to distant future.
